TOWARDS A SYNERGY OF COMPETENCES
Carrying out leading-edge biomedical research is increasingly beyond the structural and financial means available to any one faculty. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva works with the postgraduate schools and university hospitals in the Lake Geneva region, a development which the Louis-Jeantet Foundation can only encourage.
Thus, together with the Leenaards Foundation, the Louis-Jeantet Foundation has contributed to financing the
Centre d’Imagerie BioMédicale (CIBM), established at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). This centre, which uses cutting-edge technology for signals processing, is crucial for functional genomics research in the region. The two foundations alone have invested a total sum of CHF9m in this platform, which represents about 20 per cent of its total cost.
From 2007 to 2009, the Louis-Jeantet Foundation has also worked with the
Leenaards Foundation in supporting the
Infectigen Association for the study of infection genetics, which leads and coordinates the interdisciplinary research in this field conducted by the following five institutions:
Université de Genève (UNIGE),
Université de Lausanne (UNIL),
Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL),
Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève (HUG) and
Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV).
