THE 1994 LOUIS-JEANTET PRIZE-WINNERS are Thierry BOON (Brussels), Jan HOLMGREN (Göteborg) and Philippe J. SANSONETTI (Paris).

The 1994 Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine is attributed to three researchers who have made exceptional progress in their respective field, cancerology and infectious diseases, by combining effectively clinical with basic biological research.

Thierry BOON is a pioneer in the study of reactions of the immune system against cancer cells.

Jan HOLMGREN has decisively contributed to new vaccination strategies against the bacterium of cholera.

The work of Philippe J. SANSONETTI is on the vaccination against Shigella, a bacterium which provokes diarrhoea that is often fatal to children.

THE AWARD CEREMONY was held on Friday April 22, 1994, in Geneva (Switzerland).
