THE 1995 LOUIS-JEANTET PRIZE-WINNERS are Dirk BOOTSMA and Jan H.J. HOEIJMAKERS (Rotterdam), Peter N. GOODFELLOW and Robin H. LOVELL-BADGE (London), and Peter GRUSS (Göttingen).
The 1995 Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine is attributed to five researchers in total, among them two teams of two researchers each.
Dirk BOOTSMA and Jan H.J. HOEIJMAKERS work on DNA repair systems, which are important to cancer prevention.
Peter N. GOODFELLOW and Robin H. LOVELL-BADGE are interested in the genetics of embryonal development of the human species and of mice. They have discovered a gene on the Y chromosome that is essential to male sex determination.
Peter GRUSS studies the genes responsible for the body and tissue outlay of mice, and he has recognised that mutations in these genes are a cause of congenital disorders also in human development.
THE AWARD CEREMONY was held on Friday April 21, 1995, in Geneva (Switzerland).
