Biography:

Rui Costa did his PhD work at University of Porto/UCLA and his postdoctoral work at Duke University. He was a Section Chief at the National Institutes of Health from 2006 to 2009, and became an Investigator of the Champalimaud Neuroscience Program in 2009. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

Research interests:

Dr. Costa’s laboratory studies the neurobiology of action in health and disease. He uses genetic, electrophysiological, optical, and behavioral approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying the generation and shaping of novel actions, and the shift between goal-directed actions and habits.
